Hello, I'm Shruthi Nair.
I am a Dance Artiste, choreographer, movement director, and performer with 20 years of movement living in my body. My dance-making has never been static; it has been especially shifting and evolving the last 6 years or so. I’m always learning, un-learning, and re-learning, especially through my deep interest in Neo-Bharatham and Indo-Contemporary choreography. These worlds allow me to stretch, question, dismantle, and rebuild, often almost everytime I am in a studio or on stage. My artistic voice sits where Bharathanatyam meets Contemporary movement, with little sparks of Street styles woven in. I love blending these vocabularies into one seamless, expressive fabric that feels both rooted and adventurous, very much like who I am. Even as I innovate, I hold close the technical nuance and cultural sanctity of each form. I don’t just mix for the sake of mixing; I mix with meaning. Alongside my keen interest in genre-bending choreography, I also dabble in commercial projects and performance from time to time. These span across music videos, advertisements, corporate shows, competitions, and community projects. As a freelance artiste, I’m drawn to projects that are curious, collaborative, and delightfully unconventional. My process is equal parts laboratory, playground, and temple. Whether I’m performing, choreographing, creating, or researching movement, I believe I bring thoughtful rigour, playful imagination, and an ever-student spirit into every room I enter. At the heart of it all, I believe in Dance. It's faith that I have been holding on to for two decades, and one I’m always excited to continue with new collaborators, creators, and audiences. If my work or experience resonates with a creative/performance project on your hands, or if you need to talk to someone about anything Dance, I am all ears and I would love to hear from you!
